1. About these terms

These Terms of Use govern your use of the Kroket app (iPhone, iPad and Android) and the kroketapp.com website.

Kroket is an app published by Adrien Leyronas, an independent developer based in France, who can be reached at bonjour@kroketapp.com. Full details are in our Legal Notice.

By using Kroket, you agree to these terms. When you create an account or subscribe to Premium, you expressly accept them. If you downloaded the app from the App Store or Google Play, those platforms' terms also apply.

2. The service

Kroket helps you understand what's in dog and cat food and keep track of your pet. The app offers three levels of access:

  • without an account: barcode scanning, 100-point score, product pages, additives, product comparison, better alternatives, and adding missing products;
  • with a free account: favorites, pet profiles (daily portions, weight, health log, food stock), pet sharing, widgets, sync across devices, and allergen and product recall alerts;
  • with Premium: a personalized score for each pet, search by name or brand, and an offline catalog.

Allergen alerts and product recalls will never be locked behind Premium.

Kroket changes over time: features may be added, changed or removed. The service may also be temporarily unavailable, for example during maintenance or a technical issue.

3. Your account

  • You can create an account with Apple, Google, or an email address and password.
  • You must be at least 15 to create an account; younger users need a parent or guardian's permission.
  • You agree to provide accurate information and to choose a username that isn't offensive or misleading and doesn't impersonate another person or brand.
  • Your account is personal. You're responsible for keeping your login details safe and for what happens under your account. If you notice unauthorized use, let us know right away.
  • You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings > Account > Delete my account.

4. Information about your pets

You enter your pets' profiles yourself (age, weight, activity, neutered status, allergies, treatments, and so on). Daily portions, weight plans and personalized scores are calculated from this information, so inaccurate or incomplete data can lead to unsuitable results. Please keep it up to date.

5. Your catalog contributions

What you can submit

You can add a missing product or suggest a change to a product page: name, brand, species, format, guaranteed analysis, ingredients, additives and package photos.

Your commitments

You agree that your contributions:

  • faithfully reflect the information printed on the package;
  • include only photos you took yourself or have the right to share;
  • don't show any people or personal information;
  • don't contain advertising, misleading, offensive, disparaging or illegal content, or any attempt to promote or harm a brand.

Review

Contributions may be reviewed before or after they're published. Kroket may reject, correct or remove a contribution, especially if it's inaccurate, incomplete or breaks these terms. Kroket isn't required to publish any contribution.

License you grant to Kroket

The factual information on a label (analysis, ingredients) doesn't belong to anyone in particular. For everything else, especially your photos, you grant Kroket's publisher a free, non-exclusive, worldwide license, for the full duration of copyright, to reproduce, adapt (crop, resize, extract text and nutritional values), publish and distribute them in the Kroket app, on kroketapp.com and in materials presenting Kroket. This license includes the right to have them hosted and processed by our technical service providers.

Contributions are published without your name and stay online if you delete your account. You keep the rights to your photos and are free to use them elsewhere.

6. Premium

The subscription

Premium is an optional monthly or yearly subscription, purchased in the app through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google). The price, billing period and what's included are shown in the app before you buy. By subscribing, you become a contributor: you help fund an independent, ad-free app.

Payment and renewal

Payment is collected by Apple or Google under their own terms. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Kroket never has access to your payment details.

Canceling

You can cancel at any time; Premium stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for.

  • On iPhone or iPad: Settings app > your name > Subscriptions > Kroket.
  • On Android: Google Play > profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions.

Deleting the app or your Kroket account doesn't cancel your subscription. If you switch devices, tap “Restore” on the Premium screen to get your subscription back.

Withdrawal and refunds

Premium gives you immediate access to digital features. Withdrawal and refund requests are handled by the platform you subscribed through, under its own rules and in line with applicable consumer protection law:

Because Kroket doesn't collect payments, it can't issue refunds directly.

Changes to Premium

What's included in Premium may change. If we ever remove a major feature, we'll let you know in advance, and you'll remain free to cancel.

7. Sharing a pet

  • A pet's owner can generate an 8-character code, valid for 5 minutes and usable only once, to invite someone with a Kroket account.
  • Members can see all of the pet's records (profile, photo, weight, health log, food stock) and can add or edit this information. They can't delete the pet, invite other people or remove members.
  • The owner can remove a member at any time, and a member can leave the share. Information that was added stays with the pet. If the owner deletes the pet or their account, members lose access to it.
  • Only share a code with people you trust, and never publicly. Each user is responsible for the information they enter.

8. What Kroket isn't: important limits

  • Kroket doesn't replace a veterinarian. Scores, daily portions, weight plans, alerts and tips are for information only. They aren't a diagnosis, a prescription or veterinary advice. If your pet is sick, very young, older, pregnant or overweight, or before any major change in diet, talk to your vet.
  • Scores are indicative. They're based on information declared by manufacturers on their labels and on community contributions. Labels can contain errors, recipes can change and product pages can be incomplete. The score doesn't measure ingredient quality or origin, digestibility, or suitability for a medical condition. Our approach is explained on our Method page.
  • Allergen alerts aren't a guarantee. They rely solely on the declared ingredients. They can't rule out traces or cross-contamination, and they can't check anything when the ingredient list is missing (“Allergies not verifiable”).
  • Product recalls aren't exhaustive. They come from RappelConso, the French government's public recall data, synced regularly but not in real time, and they only cover products in your history or favorites whose barcode appears in the recall notice. Kroket doesn't guarantee that these alerts are complete or immediate. Check official announcements and store notices too.
  • Alternatives and comparisons aren't sponsored by any brand. Kroket doesn't guarantee product availability or prices.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • scrape or bulk-extract Kroket's catalog or content;
  • get around Premium access or security measures;
  • try to access other users' data or disrupt the service;
  • decompile or modify the app, except where the law allows it;
  • submit contributions in bulk, or false or malicious ones;
  • use Kroket for anything illegal or in breach of these terms.

10. Intellectual property

The Kroket name and logo, the app, the website, their text, illustrations and design, the presentation of the scoring method, and the product database are protected by copyright, trademark law and database rights. They belong to Kroket's publisher, except for data from open sources, which is used under its own licenses (see our Legal Notice).

Kroket grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app for private, non-commercial purposes. Any unauthorized reproduction or use is prohibited.

Brands and artwork on photographed products belong to their owners and are shown only to help identify products.

11. Liability

Kroket does its best to provide a reliable service and accurate information, but can't promise results. Kroket doesn't guarantee that the service will always be available or error-free.

You're responsible for the decisions you make about your pet's diet and health, and for the content you enter or submit. Kroket isn't liable for harm resulting from inaccurate information printed on a package or provided by a user, from use that breaks these terms, or from service outages.

Nothing in these terms limits Kroket's liability for gross negligence or intentional misconduct, or the rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law.

12. Suspension and termination

You can stop using Kroket and delete your account at any time.

If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms (fraud, abusive contributions, attacks on the service's security or on other users), Kroket may suspend or delete your account, with notice when possible or immediately in urgent cases. If you have a Premium subscription, remember to cancel it with Apple or Google.

If Kroket ever shuts down, we'll let you know at least 30 days in advance and make sure no further subscription renewals are charged.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes to the app or the law. The date at the top shows the latest version. If we make a significant change, we'll let you know in the app or on the website before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can delete your account and cancel Premium.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your country of residence.

If you run into a problem, please email us first at bonjour@kroketapp.com, and we'll try to find a solution together.

If we can't resolve it, you can use a consumer mediation service free of charge.

Failing an agreement, the dispute may be brought before the competent courts under the usual rules; if you're a consumer, you can go to the court where you live.
