Here's everything Kroket does, screen by screen

This page walks through what the app does at the store, at home and every day, for cats and dogs alike. The table at the bottom shows what's free.

Sample profiles inspired by Newton and Mya.

At the store

Find out how good a bag is before you get to the checkout

The app scores the food out of 100 from its label, compares two products and shows you other highly rated ones. You don't need an account for any of it.

Scan and score

Every score tells you why it's high or low

Manufacturers don't have to list carbs, and they rarely do. The app works them out by subtraction from the numbers on the back of the bag, then scores kibble, wet food and treats out of 100.

Five verdicts run from Excellent to Avoid. Under the score, a paragraph explains it in plain words, and another screen walks through the math step by step. Supplements show up without a score, because they aren't complete meals.

Product page

The product page shows you what the food is made of

A chart splits what's in the bag into parts. Protein, calculated carbs, fat, ash, fiber and moisture each get their share. The page also tells you whether it's kibble, wet food or treats, whether it's for cats or dogs, and what age it's made for.

The app spots 15 additives in the ingredient list. They include BHA (E320), BHT (E321), ethoxyquin (E324), E171, carrageenan (E407) and propylene glycol. Each one is sorted into one of three levels: no known concern, controversial, avoid.

A tag only shows up when the product backs it up. “Low carb” and “High in animal protein” depend on calculated thresholds. “Grain-free” comes with a caveat when other starches take the place of grains, and manufacturer claims are reviewed before they're shown.

Kitten kibble page: breakdown with 40% protein and 19% calculated carbs, then the Additives card with nothing flagged.

Compare and suggestions

Put two bags side by side before you choose

The comparison covers seven lines. Score, protein, carbs, fat, moisture, fiber and ash. It works between two comparable products, like two dry dog foods. It also comes in handy the day your cat sniffs the new kibble and walks off without touching it.

Every product page suggests up to ten other products scoring 80 or higher. They're the same kind as the one you scanned, with only one per brand. They're ranked by score, and no brand pays to be there.

Two dry cat foods compared, scoring 83 and 58 out of 100, with protein, carbs, fat and moisture side by side.

Can't find your bag in the app? Add it yourself

Take a photo of the back of the bag. The label is read automatically, and an estimated score updates as you fill in the details. A product you add shows up right away; corrections suggested later are reviewed before they go live.

Adding a missing product: the app is reading the label from the photo.
  • Premium

Look up pet food by name or brand

Search works without scanning. Filter by cat or dog, kibble or wet food, then sort the results by score.

Search in the app: over 50 dog products sorted by score, from 81 to 92 out of 100.
  • Download the catalog, and scanning works offline. That helps in big stores where your signal drops out between aisles.

    Premium

At home

Your pets have different needs, and the app takes that into account

You create a profile for each one, with age, breed, spay/neuter status, activity, weight and allergies. The portions, the alerts and, with Premium, the score all start from that profile.

  • Premium

The score adjusts to the pet who's going to eat the food

The app looks at age, spay/neuter status, activity, weight goal and allergies. It explains every point gained or lost. The personalized score is included in Premium, on iPhone and iPad.

Score card for Mya, a 5-month-old kitten: 100 out of 100, a daily portion of 69 g and estimated needs of 261 kcal.
  • Allergen detected

Every product page checks for your pet's allergens

You pick them once in their profile, from a list of 12 allergens. The app then looks for them in each product's ingredient list. If there's no ingredient list, the page says “Allergies can't be verified.”

My pets

Each pet gets a profile with their portion and all their tracking

The profile doesn't ask for much. Cat or dog, photo, date of birth, breed from a list of about 300, sex, spay/neuter status, activity, allergies and weight. The app works out the rest from there.

Sharing

Share your pet's tracking with the people who help care for them

You give them an 8-character code. They enter it in their Kroket app within 5 minutes. From then on, they see the same weight, the same care and the same current bag as you do.

You only share that one pet. Your scans, your favorites and your other pets stay hidden from them.

Every day

You get a notification when a vaccine or treatment is coming up

You also get one when a bag is running low, or when a product in your history is recalled. On iPhone and iPad, widgets show your pets' tracking without opening the app.

  • A recalled product shows up in red on its page and on the home screen

Recalls come from RappelConso, the French government's official recall website. If a product in your history or favorites is listed there, you also get a notification.

  • Put a widget for your pets on your Home Screen

There are two widgets on iPhone and iPad. “My pet” shows one pet's portion, how much food is left and what's due next; “My pets” shows the whole household at once.
