One scan, a score out of 100 and clear explanations. Kroket tailors your pet's food to their age and allergies, and keeps track of their health day to day.

Kroket helps before you buy and long after the bag is open

At the store, it helps you pick a bag. At home, it works out your pet's daily portion and reminds you when a vaccine or treatment is due.

Scan the barcode and the score shows up with its explanation

You don't need an account. The app reads the numbers on the label, does the math that's missing and scores the food out of 100. On the product page, a short paragraph tells you what pushes the score up or down.

How much should your cat or dog eat a day?

You fill in their profile. Based on age, breed, spay/neuter status, activity level and weight, the app estimates what your pet needs and gives a daily portion in grams for the food you're using. It's a starting point, to adjust as their weight changes.

Every day

When the bag runs low or a vaccine is due, the app lets you know

Every due date sends you a notification. An almost empty bag, a vaccine, a treatment or a weigh-in: you don't have to keep it all in your head. On iPhone and iPad, the “My pet” and “My pets” widgets show the daily portion, how much food is left and what's due next, without opening the app.

Kroket reads the fine print for you

It checks the ingredient list for anything your pet is allergic to. It also works out what the bag doesn't tell you, and lets you know if a product you scanned gets recalled.

Allergen detected for Newton

Is your dog allergic to chicken? The app checks the ingredients for you

Add their allergies to their profile once. You can pick from 12 allergens, like chicken, fish, wheat or soy. Every product page tells you if one of them shows up in the ingredient list. If a product has no ingredient list on file, the page says “Allergies not verifiable” instead of telling you it's fine.

The formula is public, so you can check the math yourself

Manufacturers don't have to list carbs, and they rarely do. Kroket works them out from the other numbers on the label, then combines carbs and protein into the score. On the method page, a calculator lets you try it with your own bag.

If a product you scanned is recalled, the app flags it

Kroket follows official product recalls in France. If a product in your history or favorites is listed on RappelConso, the French government's recall website, a red banner appears on its page and on the home screen, and you get a notification.

Allergen alerts and product recalls are free, and they'll stay free. Finding out that a product could be a problem shouldn't depend on a subscription.

Personalized score Premium

The same bag doesn't get the same score for each of your pets

The product score stays the same for everyone. With Premium, Kroket also adjusts it for each of your pets, based on age, spay/neuter status, activity, weight goal and allergies. Every point gained or lost is explained.

  • Food made for their age+8
  • Spayed or neutered cat or dog, light or neutered formula+6
  • Weight-loss goal, very high-calorie food−10

The personalized score is available on iPhone and iPad. The daily portion in grams stays free.

Compare

Stuck between two bags? Compare them line by line

Kroket compares them on seven points. Score, protein, carbs, fat, moisture, fiber and ash, for two products of the same kind: two dry cat foods, or two wet dog foods.

Every product page also suggests other highly rated products. You get up to ten of the same kind, all scoring 80 or higher, with only one per brand.

Sharing

Everyone at home sees the same updates for your pet

When one person adds a weigh-in or a treatment, it shows up right away for everyone else.

Health log

Look up a vaccine date without digging through drawers

Log every bit of care in their health log. Vaccines, treatments, surgeries, spaying or neutering: the app reminds you before the next one is due.

Every weigh-in goes on their weight chart. Set a goal with your vet, and the app breaks the weight loss into stages and shows how far along your pet is.

The bag always seems to run out on a Sunday night. Note the day you opened it, and the app estimates how many days are left and warns you before it's empty.

Independence

Kroket doesn't sell pet food

And no brand pays for its score. Kroket is an independent app. It started with a question its founder had about what two cats, Newton and Mya, were eating.

Good to know before you download the app

  • Premium

You can look up a product without having it in hand. Type its name or brand, choose cat or dog, kibble or wet food, then sort by score.

Search in Kroket: over 50 dog products sorted by score, from 81 to 92 out of 100.
  • Missing a product? You can add it. Take a photo of the bag, and the app reads the label and shows an estimated score while you fill in the details. A product you add shows up right away; corrections suggested later are reviewed before they go live.

  • Every product page flags additives. Fifteen are tracked, from BHA to ethoxyquin, and sorted into three levels: no known concern, controversial, avoid.

  • Supplements don't get a score. You don't feed a supplement like a meal, so scoring it like kibble wouldn't make sense. The app shows its product page, without a score.

  • Kroket is on iPhone, iPad and Android. With an account, your pets and favorites are on every device. The personalized score, allergen alerts, product recalls and widgets aren't on Android yet.

  • On iPhone and iPad, the app speaks 7 languages. English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese. You can switch without changing your phone's language.

  • Premium

You can scan with no signal. Once the catalog is downloaded, products are recognized even at the back of a store where your phone has no bars.

  • Your scans aren't lost when you create an account. Anything you scanned without one moves over when you sign in, and the free account is where you track your pets from then on.

Questions that come up a lot

Can Kroket replace my vet's advice?

No. The app compares foods based on what's printed on their labels. It knows nothing about ingredient quality, digestibility or your pet's health. If your pet is sick, has allergies or is overweight, your vet should make the call.

What's free?

Without an account: scan a product, see its score and product page with additives, compare two products, see other highly rated products and add a missing product.

With a free account: track your pets (portions, weight, health log, current bag), share their tracking with others and get your favorites on all your devices. On iPhone and iPad, you also get widgets, allergen alerts and product recalls.

With Kroket Premium: the personalized score for each of your pets (on iPhone and iPad), search by name or brand, and the offline catalog. Premium is also what keeps the app going.

How is the score calculated?

It all starts with the numbers on the back of the bag. Kroket first works out the carbs: 100, minus protein, fat, ash, fiber and moisture. For kibble, low carbs and high protein mean a good score. Wet food, which is mostly water, and treats have their own thresholds. The full formula is on the method page.

My high-end kibble only gets an average score. Is that normal?

It happens. The score only looks at the numbers on the label, mostly carbs and protein, so price and packaging don't change it. An average score doesn't mean you did anything wrong. It's a reference point for comparing, to weigh against your budget and what your pet is willing to eat.

My product isn't in Kroket. What should I do?

Add it from the app. Take a photo of the bag, and the app reads the label and shows an estimated score while you enter the details. No time at the store? Save the barcode to your pending scans and finish the product page later.
