Kroket is an app for iPhone, iPad and Android for cat and dog owners who wonder whether the kibble, wet food and treats they buy are any good. You scan the barcode on the package, and the app shows a score out of 100 with a short paragraph explaining it. Manufacturers aren't required to list carbohydrates, and they rarely do: Kroket works them out from the other numbers on the label, using a formula published on its website. Its catalog covers more than 20,000 products across Europe, and scanning works without an account.
The app also takes each pet into account. It works out a daily portion in grams and keeps the pet's weight, health log and food supply in one place, and the whole household can share those records. On iPhone and iPad, allergen alerts and product recalls are free, and they'll stay free; Kroket Premium adds a personalized score for each pet. Kroket is built by Adrien, an independent developer who has two cats. It shows no ads, has no brand partners or investors, and is funded by Premium subscriptions. It's free to download.
